Next stop on the Islas Marietas was a place called Hidden Cove, thus named because it can only be reached through a partially submerged opening on the leeward side of the island. We snorkeled through as the tide was rising and had to time our passage carefully so as not to have our heads knocked against the rocks as the tide surged.
Passing into the cove we were delighted to see a large sandy beach dotted with well worn rocks surrounded by high rock walls completely encircling the cove. It looked like the perfect pirate hideaway!

The Mariettas are a group of islands dotted with caves, coves, and tunnels. It is now a marine park and wildlife sanctuary where Blue Footed Boobies nest alongside various other shore birds and marine life.
Travel to the islands is by panga boat with local guides who know where the reefs are located.
Caves and coves honeycomb the islands.
